PikPok and Garage Project launch exclusive Into the Dead anniversary celebration beer

December 13, 2022

Leading games developer and publisher PikPok has collaborated with Wellington brewery Garage Project to create an exclusive beer to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of hit video game series Into the Dead.

Into the Dead is an original video game franchise chronicling authentic human struggles, heartbreak, and heroism in the merciless brutality of the zombie apocalypse. Debuting in December 2012, the franchise has over 150 million combined downloads/sales around the world through multiple games released across a range of platforms. Over the last 10 years, the franchise has helped developer PikPok grow from a small local staff to over 200 people across both New Zealand and Colombia.

This success is mirrored in Garage Project, a brewery that originally started with just three people and has now expanded into arguably Wellington’s most popular local brewery. PikPok has been lucky enough to call Jos Ruffell, one of the founders of Garage Project, both a friend and former colleague — Jos once worked as a Team Founder at PikPok. This means the two companies have benefited from mutual support and encouragement.

“Garage Project is a great example of what we at PikPok are trying to achieve,” said Mario Wynands, CEO, PikPok. “Using local talent, a passion for their industry, and the grit and determination to succeed, Garage Project has become a highly regarded name in New Zealand. It has been an honour to work with them on creating a very special — and delicious — brew to celebrate 10 years of Into the Dead, and I think players and beer enthusiasts alike will be thrilled with what we’ve come up with.”

Jos Ruffell said, “It was a real thrill to brew a collaborative beer with PikPok and help celebrate Into the Dead‘s 10th anniversary. Two of the founders of Garage Project were at the studio for many years, and worked on the very earliest PikPok releases. While we didn’t work on the Into the Dead release, we remember the original pitch and it’s phenomenal to see both businesses develop and grow over the last 10 years, each from small Wellington beginnings. Cheers!”
