Dev Diary – Rival Stars

October 25, 2014

In this Dev Diary, Chris W., lead designer on PikPok’s latest title Rival Stars Basketball, talks about his experience working on the game.

What was your role in the Rival Stars team: As the Lead Designer on Rival Stars, I was responsible for creating characters and ensuring the flow of experiences was enjoyable.

What was the best part about working on Rival Stars: One of the best things about working on this game was that it really was a team effort – no one person owned the project, and I think that really helped to ensure the game is accessible and enjoyable for players.

With this game being a hybrid of arcade sports and strategy team management it meant there was the opportunity to design a fun new way to play. It’s one thing to create a concept, but in order to make a great game you really need to be able to find the fun, and I think we’ve managed to achieve that in Rival Stars.

Creating the characters was another aspect of the game that I enjoyed working on. We wanted to create athletes that covered a wide spectrum of diverse personalities and quirks.

What’s your favorite part of the game: My favorite part of the game when playing is the multi-player tournament. I love that I can steal points from my friends and climb the ladder and (hopefully) top the charts.
